Pre-surgical Instructions
To provide better information of the steps to follow before performing a surgical procedure, follow the instructions below.
- Take previous exams for assessment with the anesthesiologist and internist if required.
- The appointment with the anesthesiologist and the internist will be given by the assistant of Dr. Margarita Peña.
- Ten (10) days before your surgery you should not take medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid such as: dristan, aspirin, alkaseltzer, aswin, anticoagulants such as: warfarin, heparin, caumandin, clopidogrel, persatin, liquemine, ecotrin, plavix, clexane, iscover, flaxiparine and natural medicine such as: vita E, ginkgo biloba, garlic, omega 3, epa, ginger, ginseng, multivitamins as supplement E.
- Five (5) days before your surgery you should not take anti-inflammatory medications such as: motrin, advil, ibuprofen, feldene, diclofenac, postan, naproxen, voltaren, indocid.
- Please keep in mind if you are taking medication consult Dra. Margarita Peña or your anesthesiologist if you should continue taking them or suspend them.
- The day before your surgery, lunch or dinner should as usual between 6:00 and 8:00 pm avoiding acid foods, fats and milk products.
- The day of your surgery you must arrive on an empty stomach (do not drink water)
- One (1) day before surgery and the day of it in your daily bath wash with isodine foam the area of surgery, leave for 3 minutes and wash, if your surgery is on the face use kids shampoo.
- Do not smoke two (2) weeks before surgery
- Do not shave the area of the surgery the day before the intervention, do it (3) days before.
- If before the surgery you present a change in your physical condition (fever, chills, malaise, “born” abscesses) or skin lesions, please contact us.
- On the day of your surgery do not paint your nails, or use makeup, leave jewelry and valuables in your home.
- You must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- If you have money in cash, give it to your companion, as well as dental prostheses, glasses, valuables, etc.
- If for any reason it can not be operated, please advise 10 as soon as possible.
Post-surgical Instructions
The success of a surgery is not achieved when it is finished, the post operative period is very important because the proper compliance of the medical instructions will help to optimize the benefits.
- Prior to surgery you must buy a cream for EQGEL inflammation and another for FACREL R scars and postoperative medications (in the office).
- You must acquire elastic supports (belts) minimum 2 on measures and post surgical bras.
- After the surgical intervention, you will go to the recovery room, your stay in this room will depend on the type of surgery performed, and anesthetic recovery, your relatives and companions will be notified frequently of your evolution.
- Once your diet is authorized, start with a fractionated liquid diet (tea, water, aromatics, broths) and then a soft diet.
- If the surgery requires hospitalization, your room will be assigned once recovery is complete, a companion can stay in the room and your departure will be in the morning of the next day. If your surgery is ambulatory, you will be discharged when the recovery is over.
- Ambulation and mobilization of the legs early, do not stay lying down.
- The prescribed formula should be taken after consuming food and not taking any other medication than those formulated.
- Communicate immediately in case of abnormalities or if you observe characteristics such as the following:
- Pain, heat or swelling where the vein was taken.
- Severe pain that does not calm down with analgesic indicated.
- Heat, redness, or swelling at the site of the injury.
- Fluid or pus outlet at the wound site
- Temperature greater than 38 ° C.
- You must attend follow-up appointments after surgery, the assistant of Dra. Margarita Peña will assign them.
- You must avoid exposure to the sun, to prevent the formation of macula (permanent spots on the skin).
- Do not make sudden movements, stoop, or do strenuous activities.
- Must provide fractional feeding and plenty of liquid.
- Patients must remain accompanied and try to have help for their daily activities.
- You will be followed up by telephone through our outpatient assistant for a period after the surgery.
- Patients with breast surgery should avoid driving in the next 15 days and sleep in a semi-sitting position to decrease the pressure of the prosthesis and avoid feeling asphyxiated.
- To remove the girdle, the patient must be in bed and wait twenty (20) minutes before getting up, thus avoiding decompensation or dizziness.
- Precautions to consider with your wound:
- Do not uncover without prior indication.
- Do not wet the wound while it is covered, protect it with a plastic in your daily bath.
- Apply alcohol once a day on the micropore.
- Once the dressings are removed and the stitches can be bathed without covering the wound.
- Points, healings, and drainages with a syringe will only be performed by the assistant of Dra. Margarita Pena.
- Precautions to be considered with drainage or hemovac:
- Before handling, wash your hands with soap and water.
- If you are going to empty the contents, remove the lid, measure the quantity of the drained liquid, pour the contents into a container and press the drain container in such a way that it contacts its walls, immediately place the lid, count how much it drains daily
- Start your massage the next day after surgery or as indicated.
